We had a great visit with Marcus and Christy this weekend. Five years ago, he and I both made our first trip to Austin together. Roadtrips with Marcus are always interesting. That particular one included me, the dozing shotgun passenger, a stalled truck along highway 71, a tow truck and a booty rap music-listening driver named Virgil. Oh yes, we pulled up into my friend’s neighorhood with our ride in tow, literally.
He was still a boy and I was in my mid-twenties. Now, he’s a soon to be husband, a better gardener than I’ll ever be, and a documentarist of insects. I’m a wife and mother and small business owner. We are both travelling some pretty scenic routes of life right now. He’s all grown up, but I'm still his nostalgic big sister. He's no longer the curly haired five year old singing along to the school bus radio blaring “LaBamba.” But I love that we have a life time of great memories together, learning from one another about the world around us. As always, it was good to have him around this weekend.
We enjoyed exploring Hill Country back roads, digging around in the antique mall, and chatting it up on the front porch.
