Hey there! I'm sitting here in the kitchen typing a bit before I call it a night and zone out to some Larkrise to Candleford. Today was a make-up school day from an ice day last month. Turns out, there's more ice on the way tonight and tomorrow morning. So who knows, we might have to cancel again tomorrow! What crazy weather it's been this year. Spring really does want to be here! See that henbit in the top photo? It's everywhere right now (though looking wilted and tricked by the artic snap). I was browsing through my archives of photos from past March's a little while ago. Two years ago, at this time the poppies were blooming. Mine are bushy but showing absolutely no signs of blooming yet. And how can they? This morning was 19 degrees! Oh, but Saturday was 80 degrees! All of my perennials that were just feeling courageous enough to send out tender green leaves are zapped again. Poor things! It's looking like a slow start to spring around these parts.
I hauled my computer out to the kitchen again this afternoon (it's the warmish spot of the house). And with these frigid days, I'm back to enjoying an afternoon cup of chai. One can't really complain about chai in the afternoon. It's the equivalent of ice coffee in July. Sometimes you gotta work with what you have. And if it's icicles in March, then chai it is.
The chicks are a week old today. It's there second Monday! And I must say, they have the best seat in our house. They get to hang out in the bathroom with a space heater on all day. Everytime I go in there to potty, I open the door and a wave of warm air hits me and I then I think I could just snuggle up right there with them and a good book all day. Maybe I'll try that tomorrow and see how long I can go before anyone misses me.
Oh, and the picture of me! You know, I'm not in the habit of taking selfies or posting pictures of myself. But Bea took this one of me the other day and I just thought it was kind of interesting. A deviation from the awkward mama in front of the camera who is pretending to look natural and comfortable sort.
So there you have it, another Monday post. Is this a new habit for me?
How was your Monday? What's your world looking like these days?
xo,
Nichole
I love the photo Bea took of you~ so nice to see your lovely face :) and the one of her with the red vest (and milk mustache, I think?)- perfect! it's the same here- high 60s on Saturday, and now 20s and possibly snowing tonight. after our recent big snow I am so ready for spring.
I am curious about this show you speak so highly of...... can I watch it on Netflix? I am off to get ice cream out of the freezer and see... (the ice cream will help me figure it out, I'm sure)

YOU ARE SO CUTE! And this weather is drunk, it needs to go home. Seriously. Chai's mighty nice, though.

You made me laugh out loud, Fanny! This weather is wasted for sure!

Nice to see you! I ought to hand the camera to my children and see what they see. :-) That is some crazy weather.

Do you have a chai recipe that you like, and do you include frothed milk? I've tried making it at home without much success and would love some suggestions.

Love the pic of you, looks old-fashioned somehow with your cool kitchen in the background. And you are very pretty. Beautiful collection of photos in general, actually. But I'm glad you told me you just moved the computer out to the other room cause your "desk" looks annoyingly tidy. : )

I did! I ended up watching two episodes of Call the Midwife. you've got me thinking about amazon prime now.....

I don't make my own chai mix, though I've wanted to. This post http://rosylittlethings.typepad.com/posie_gets_cozy/2013/12/little-tree.html from Alicia Paulson almost hooked me in entirely, but then I added up the ingredients at the grocery store and the Tazo brand won hands down for economical purposes. :) I add a little maple syrup and warm milk to it and find it yummy! Frothed milk would be dreamy too.

Thanks Brandy. It's been a long, cold winter even here in Texas!! :)

we dropped netflix in exchange for amazon prime. I like it, but i actually don't watch lots of movies these days, so i'm not sure if i'm the greatest judge of how amazon compares to netflix overall. i just know that i love fast, free shipping, mister rogers for the little one and larkrise to candleford for me. byron is complete with the food channel.

Yum! I'll have to try it while the weather outside is still cool. Thank you for sharing.

I found your lovely blog through a picture of yours on Pinterest and I have to say I haven't been so enthralled with a blog in a long time! Your pictures are absolutely beautiful. I have a question. I love the apron/pinafore you're wearing in the first picture (or is it a dress?) and I was wondering if you made it or if you purchased it somewhere? I've been looking for something like that for myself for a while now and I love that it buttons down the front. Exactly what I need. :)

Aw, thanks Hannah! Your words are so kind! The dress I'm wearing in this post is a linen shift dress purchased from LLBean. I love it. I wear it by itself in the summer and as an extra layer in the winter, layered with leggings.

Ah good ol' LLBean. I should have known. My sister who lives in Maine (where I'm originally from too) shops the thrift stores up there and buys anything LLBean brand that's linen and ships it to me here in Florida. :) Thank you. And for the past 10 days or so I have been going back and reading every single one of your blog posts. Simply lovely little life you have Nichole. You're an inspiration.
