The shift is upon us. The one that carries us from the glory, hazy daze of summer to the beginnings of a vibrant new school year. As if flipping the calendar page to August last week wasn't enough of a gentle nudge, I am finding (with giddiness and anticipation) that the light does not lie. Its glow is becoming warmer by the day.
We've had a really good summer ride. So good.
Just in the last couple of weeks...
The young one got swimming underwater. She's there. And now as if the flood gates have opened, there is an explosion of sorts into other little things she's long been on the cusp of.
I've been staying up way too late geeking out on youtube and Clickinmoms as I attempt to learn more about the in's and out's of photography beyong, shutter speed, aperture, and ISO.
Field trips are being planned and organized.
New classroom materials suitable for kindergartners (my baby and her little friends are going to be kinders this year!!) are being created and laminated.
School supplies are stacking up into pretty little piles of all things fresh and bright.
Backyard improvements are almost a reality. So close.
Summertime to-do list are satisfyingly and nearly all checked off.
Fall camping trip plans are making there way into conversations at dinner time.
Daydreams of crisp air, wood smoke, autumn gatherings, fields of goldenrod and gulf mulhy seed blooms tumble through my days. I can not fend them off.
Cute conversations of a maybe baby at some point in our upcoming school year. Will we blessed during the autumn, winter, or spring? Any season will do!
Is August a month of transition for you? In what ways are your days shifting?
XO,
Nichole
i love this post. you describe it so well. i am there with you. i am feeling the shift. although, we are not quite shifting yet, but i feel it coming... and i am excited about it, and oh so ready. i LOVE fall and the start of a new school year. our summer's are always just wild and completely off schedule... i start to CRAVE schedule and order by the time the school year rolls around again... almost there :)

love the first and last photos~ she looks so big standing at the edge of the pool!
it is a time of shifting, indeed. school starts in a week and a day so I'll be back to work, which I am both looking forward to and not. I wish summer lingered for another couple weeks, but really just because I feel like I should have filled it up a bit more. so I suppose it's just as well that it's coming to a close. I look forward to getting back into a routine and feeling the seasons shift over into that most lovely season of all...

yes, i'm in your boat. well, if it's got to be august...let's just get it out of the way and move on! :) oh, but i do get a little anxious during these transitional times of the year. sensing the end of one season and the beginning of a new one never fails to bring on the nostalgia. gah!

yes, august is not my favorite month. it is a month of transitions. and those are hard for me! :) I love fall so much. I love the festivities and the aromas and the ushering in of the winter months. so much goodness. but really, each season is so good in its own right. i'll miss my lazy, daisy summer days!

Sounds hopeful and anticipatory where you are. My daughter has begun kindergarten this year and, like a floodgate, things have shifted forward in such a nice way. I used to dislike August, but I am coming to enjoy it and see little hints of Autumn in the still-Summer world.
