Autumn arrived a couple of weeks ago and with it brought Winter. The last week or so has been quite cold! We're doing okay with it though. Feeling good, in fact. The briskness and the cold right the wrongs and always help me to feel more like myself. Plus, this is such a lovely, special, magical time of the year.
I told Bea the other day that we need to start taking sunset drives through the backroads in our parts. She and I love to watch the sunsets at this time of year and she has been taking a liking to try to capture them with my camera. She's pretty good and appreciates a sharp, properly exposed photo. Be still my gushing heart.
She is at a good age. She spends her days teaching herself. Practicing her handwriting. Practicing her numbers and counting. Having me read her good books. Listening to audiobooks. She loves crafts. Last week while making our lanterns for Martinmaas, she looked at me and said, "Oh, I wish Daddy were here so he could take a picture of us together doing this." She looks forward to our simple little traditions. She dislikes an overscheduled calendar and on the rare occassion when we do happen to have several things in a row to do, she'll say in a grumbly way, "This makes me feel overwhelmed." I am so happy she can tell me about these feelings! With that I reign in our engagements, say no when I have to, and let her have the unstructured time she needs at home.
So yeah...homeschooling...so far so good, but you know, it's kindergarten. I'll run into bumps and she will too. I know I'll want to throw in the towel many times to come. But right now, we are both loving it and excited about each new day. That's all I could ask for!
